It is very hard to say what kind of teachers pupils like best. Though opinions may vary from pupil to pupil, it can safely be said that studious pupils like serious teachers who can help them in their studies, and wicked students like liberal and lenient teachers. But such a teacher can not command universal respect. They lower their images in the eyes of the serious students. Even wicked students ignore them, even hate them for their worthlessness. Undue severity in en forcing discipline on the dull and idle boys do not make a teacher popular either. A good teacher must have a golden heart. He should try to understand the problem of each and every student. He should be able to guide them, coach them and be affectionate to them. He should avoid cheap popularity. He should always look for the interest of all the students. He should encourage the dull and idle students and stimulate their intelligence to a greater activity. A tyrant can not influence the young mind. It is rather a loving and affectionate teacher who can conquer the hearts of the students and get their love.
The teacher must convince the students that he has all these qualities and that above all, he is a gentleman. Only then his success as a teacher and his popularity amongst the students are assured.
