Subjunctive involves the use of verbs in their base forms. It is used only in the dependent clause when the principal clause indicates that one person/group wants another to do something.
(অর্থাৎ dependent clause-এ মূল verb-এর base form ব্যবহারের নিয়মই হচ্ছে Subjunctive. যখন principal clause ও dependent clause-এ এরূপ বিষয় প্রতিফলিত হয় যে একপক্ষ চায় আরেকপক্ষ কিছু একটা করুক তখন subjunctive ব্যবহার করা হয়।)
Examples -
We urge that he (join) the program.
[এখানে we (একপক্ষ) চাচ্ছে he (আরেকপক্ষ) program-এ join করুক। তাই That Clause-এ verb (join) -এর base form ব্যবহৃত হবে।]
The principal clause may contain any of the following verbs:
👉 Remember that in case of subjunctive, dependent clause must be began with that.
(মনে রাখতে হবে subjunctive-এর ক্ষেত্রে dependent clause অবশ্যই dependent clause এর পরিবর্তে to + verb-1 , অর্থাৎ infinitive ব্যবহার করা হয়।)
He requested that I attend the program.
or,
He requested me to attend the program.
👉 In case of Subjunctive, modal auxiliary verb is not used in that clause.
(Subjunctive-এর ক্ষেত্রে that clause-এ modal auxiliary verb ব্যবহৃত হয় না।)
