Change of Degree: Positive, Comparative, Superlative

TRANSFORMATION OF DEGREES


SUPERLATIVE TO POSITIVE

Superlative: Tahsin is the best boy in the class. 
Positive: No other boy in the class is so good as Tahsin.

Superlative: Mina is the best housewife.
Positive: No other housewife is so good as Mina.

Superlative: He is the wisest man in the village. 
Positive: No other man in the village is so wise as he. 

Superlative: Dhaka is the biggest city in Bangladesh. 
Positive: No other city in Bangladesh is so big as Dhaka.

Superlative: Mutton chop was the cheapest of all dishes on the menu. 
Positive : No other dish on the menu was so cheap as mutton chop.

Superlative: It burns the prettiest of any wood.
Positive: No other wood burns so pretty as it.

Superlative: Gold is one of the most precious metals. 
Positive: Very few metals are as precious as gold.

Superlative: Iron is one of the most useful metals. 
Positive: Very few metals are so useful as iron.

Superlative: Chittagong is one of the largest cities in Bangladesh. 
Positive: Very few cities in Bangladesh are so large as Chittagong.

Superlative: He is one of the best boys in the class. 
Positive: Very few boys in the class are so good as he.


COMPARATIVE TO POSITIVE  

Comparative: Dhaka is larger than all other cities in Bangladesh. 
Positive: No other city in Bangladesh is so large as Dhaka.

Comparative: Jony is greater than any other boy in the orphanage.
Positive: No other boy in the orphanage is so great as Jony. 

Comparative: Rafi is taller than any other boy in the school.
Positive: No other boy in the school is so tall as Rafi.

Comparative: Suny is wiser than Rafi.
Positive: Rafi is not so wise as Suny.

Comparative: He is taller than I.
Positive: I am not so tall as he.

Comparative: A plane flies faster than a bird.
Positive: A bird does not fly so fast as a plane.

Comparative: Tomatoes are cheaper than oranges.
Positive: Oranges are not so cheap as tomatoes.

Comparative: Evan is not more intelligent than Shako.
Positive: Shako is as intelligent than Evan.

Comparative: The cow is more useful than most other animals.
Positive: Very few animals are so useful as the cow.

Comparative: A. K. Fazlul Haque was greater than most other politicians in Bangladesh.
Positive : Very few politicians in Bangladesh were so great as A. K. Fazlul Haque. 

Comparative: He is no less strong than you.
Positive: He is as strong as you.

Comparative: Richa and Mina were not less wise than the Roma. 
Positive: Richa and Mina were as wise as the Roma.

Comparative: Richa is no less clever as Nipon.
Positive : Richa is as clever as Nipon.

Comparative : He is less stupid than his brother. 
Positive: He is not so stupid as his brother.


SUPERLATIVE TO COMPARATIVE 

Superlative: He is the oldest man in the village.
Comparative: He is older than any other man in the village.

Superlative: Chittagong is the biggest port in Bangladesh. 
Comparative: Chittagong is bigger than any other port in Bangladesh.

Superlative: Maradona is the best footballer we have over seen.
Comparative: Maradona is better than any other footballer we have ever seen. 

Superlative: Akbar was the greatest of all kings in India.
Comparative: Akbar was greater than all other kings in India.

Superlative: Mr. Rafi is the noblest of all men. 
Comparative: Mr. Rafi is nobler than all other men. 

Superlative: Nipon is one of the prettiest girls in the class.
Comparative: Nipon is prettier than most other girls in the class. 

Superlative: Shuvo is one of the tallest boys in the class.
Comparative: Shuvo is taller than most other boys in the class.

Superlative: Saudi Arabia is one of the hottest countries in the world.
Comparative: Saudi Arabia is hotter than most other countries in the world.


POSITIVE TO COMPARATIVE

Positive: No other boy in the class is so good as he. 
Comparative: He is better than any other boy in the class.

Positive: No other boy in the class is as tall as he.
Comparative: He is taller than any other boy in the class. 

Positive: No other city in Bangladesh is so big as Dhaka.
Comparative: Dhaka is bigger than any other city in Bangladesh. 

Positive: Very few metals are as costly as gold.
Comparative: Gold is costlier than most other metals.

Positive: Very few boys in the village is as tall as he. 
Comparative: He is one of the tallest boys in the village.

Positive: Babur was as strong as a lion.
Comparative: A lion was not stronger than Babur.  

Positive: He is as tall as his brother.
Comparative: His brother is not taller than he.


COMPARATIVE TO SUPERLATIVE

Comparative: He is better than any other boy in the class. 
Superlative: He is the best boy in the class.

Comparative: He is taller than all other boys. 
Superlative: He is the tallest of all boys.

Comparative: Dhaka is bigger than most other cities in Bangladesh.
Superlative: Dhaka is one of the biggest cities in Bangladesh. 


POSITIVE TO SUPERLATIVE

Positive: No other boy in the class is as tall as he
Super: He is the tallest boy in the class.

Positive: Very few boys in the village are so small as Shakil.
Superlative: Shakil is one of the smallest boys in the village.
