যেমন :
(a) Simple
(b) Complex
(c) Compound.
📝 Simple Sentence: যে Sentence-এ একটিমাত্র Subject ও একটি মাত্র Finite Verb (সমাপিকা ক্রিয়া) থাকে তাকে Simple Sentence বলে । যেমন:
(i) The boys play football.
(ii) Because of his illness, he could not attend the meeting.
📝 Complex Sentence: যে Sentence-এ একটি Principal Clause এবং এক বা একাধিক Subordinate Clause থাকে তাকে Complex Sentence বলে ।
Subordinate Clause এর শুরুতে সাধারণত: if, though, although, as, because, since, so that, that, until, till, unless, when, why, who, which, where, how, before, after, whether, while বসে।
যেমন:
(i) Although he is rich, he is honest.
(ii) I know that he would help me.
প্রথম Sentence এ "Although he is rich" ইহা
Subordinate Clause এবং he is honest ইহা Principal Clause.
দ্বিতীয় Sentence এ I know ইহা Principal Clause এবং that he would help me ইহা Subordinate Clause. অতএব Sentence দুটি Complex Sentence.
📝 Compound Sentence: যদি কোন Sentence এ একাধিক Principal clause and, but, or, yet, and so, therefore, ইত্যাদি Co-ordinating Conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তাকে Compound Sentence বলে।
যেমন:
(i) He is rich, but he is honest,
(ii) Read or you will fail.
(iii) I went there and found him reading.
বিঃ দ্রঃ and দ্বারা যুক্ত Compound Sentence এর দ্বিতীয় Subject টি উহ্য থাকে ৷
আবার,
যদি কোন বাক্যে কিছু বর্ণনা বা বিবৃতি বোঝায়, তবে তাকে বলে Assertive Sentence; প্রশ্ন করা বোঝালে হয় Interrogative Sentence; আদেশ অনুরোধ বোঝালে Imperative Sentence; ইচ্ছা-প্রার্থনা বোঝালে Optative sentence; আবেগ প্রকাশ করলে Exclamatory Sentence হয়।
A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is called a Declarative or Assertive sentence.
A sentence that asks a question is called an Interrogative sentence.
A sentence that expresses a command or an entreaty is called an Imperative sentence.
A sentence that expresses wish or prayer is called an Optative sentence.
A sentence that expresses strong feeling or emotion is called an Exclamatory sentence.
