INTERCHANGE OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF NOUNS

 (a) A Proper Noun used as a Common Noun:

 (i) if it refers to a similar person or place without referring to a specific person or place: Nazrul is the Whitman of Bengal.

 (ii) The same name means many: There are four Sohels in our class.
 (b) A Common Noun used as a Proper Noun: The United States of America is a prosperous country.

 (c) A Material Noun used as Common Noun;

 (i) The rice of Barisal is fine.

 (ii) The criminal was put in irons.  (Here irons are used as chains, not in the sense of iron.)

 (d) Collective Noun used as Common Noun: There are five classes in this school.

 Note: Proper Noun, Material Noun, Collective Noun or Abstract Noun when used as Common Noun (i) either it is preceded by Article (a / an / the), or (ii) it is Plural.

 (e) An Abstract Noun used as a Common Noun: any special quality

 (i) The kindness of Mohsin is known to all.

 (ii) When by quality we mean a person or thing with qualities: She is a beauty.  (Here beauty does not mean her beauty but she is a beautiful lady).

 Note: Such use of Abstract Noun is called Abstract for Concrete.

 (f) An Abstract Noun becomes proper Noun: When personality is assigned to a quality such as: He is a child of fortune.

 (g) A Common Noun used as an Abstract Noun:

If the common noun means an abstract idea without understanding all of them.

The lion was found in him.  (The lion here refers to the lion's brilliance, not the common names of all the lions.)

 Note: The noun is preceded by The.  This type of Nount is called Concrete for Abstract.
