Basic Vocabulary: H - O, Episode 1

HALT - Nothing can halt our progress.

Synonyms: pause, hold, stop, limp, falter, hesitate, stammer.
Antonyms: flow, advance, decide, determine, speed.
- I always stammer when I feel nervous.


HANDSOME - The bridegroom is very handsome to look at.

Synonyms: beautiful, lovely, pretty, graceful, elegant, liberal, generous, comely.
Antonyms: unhandsome, ugly, ill-looking, illiberal, ungenerous.
- He always runs after pretty girls
- The salary he gets is quite unhandsome.


HANDY (adj.)- The thing which you think useless today may come in handy tomorrow.

synonyms: dexterous, convenient, useful, helpful, ready, expert.
Antonyms: awkward, useless, unhandy, cumbrous.
- We have a very handy servant.
- Ths load is too cumbrous to carry.

HANDLE - We should handle these matters very carefully.

Synonyms: hold, manipulate, regulate, touch.
Antonyms: throw, bungle, miscarry, botch.
- She manipulates the boy shamelessly.
- You have bungled the whole affair.

HARD - He has had a very hard time.

Synonyms: difficult, rigorous, arduous, firm, solid, harsh, painful, severe, grievous, stubborn, obdurate.
Antonyms: easy, mild, soft, tender, lenient, simple, plain, liquid.
- It was a painful experience.
- Cats love to lie on soft beds.

HARDSHIP - She endured all hardship in silence.

Synonyms: calamity, infliction, trouble, affiction, grievance
Antonyms: pleasure, happiness, amusement, relief, boon, treat.

HARDY - We had then many hardy fighters in the liberation war.

Synonyms: brave, courageous, valiant, vigorous, resolute, robust, strong, manly.
Antonyms: weak, delicate, fragile, irresolute, tender, cowardly, timid.
— They were all valiant fighters.
— This crockery is very delicate.

HARM  - This dog will do you no harm.

Synonyms: damage, evil, mischief, injury, mishap, detriment, misfortune, wrong.
Antonyms: benefit, boon, remedy, improvement, compensation, amelioration.
— The flood caused serious damage to the crops.
—This malady has no remedy.
