প্রকৃতপক্ষে Right form of verbs বলতে Grammar-এ আলাদা কোন শাখা নেই। বিভিন্ন Topics যেমন- Tense, Subject Verb Agreement, Conditional Sentence, Conjunction, Modal Verb, Non-finite verb, Inversion ইত্যাদি verb সংক্রান্ত সারসংক্ষেপগুলো একত্রিত করে আলাদাভাবে নাম দেওয়া হয়েছে Right form of Verbs। নিম্নে কিছু অতি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Rule আলোচনা করা হলো:
1. Sentence-এ যদি always, regularly, sometimes, often, generally, daily, everyday, occasionally, usually, normally ইত্যাদি থাকে তবে সাধারণত Sentence-টি Present Indefinite Tense-এ হয়।
যেমন -
He always disturbs me.
A good boy prepares his lessons regularly.
2. যে সকল Sentence-এ Be verb নেই, তাদেরকে Negative বা Interrogative করতে হলে Tense ও Subject অনুসারে do, does বা did ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যেমন -
Rahim does not smoke.
Did Srabon and Jashim come to my room yesterday?
3. WH Question-এর ক্ষেত্রে W.H word সমূহ যেমন what, when, where, who, which, whose, why, how ইত্যাদি থাকলে W.H word এবং Subject এর মাঝে Auxiliary Verb ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যেমন -
How does she forget about that?
Why did he laugh at me?
4. Sentence-এ যদি now, at this moment, at this time, at this very moment ইত্যাদি থাকে তবে সাধারণত Sentence-টি Present Continuous Tense-এ হয়।
যেমন -
She is working with him right now.
They are watching TV at this moment.
5. has, have/had বা having -এর পর Verb এর Past Participle form হয়।
যেমন -
He has done the work.
We have made him captain.
Having done the job, I retuned from office.
6. কোন Sentence-এ Just, just now, already, yet, ever, lately, recently ইত্যাদি থাকলে সাধারণত Sentence-টি Present Perfect Tense-এ হয়।
যেমন -
She has already come out of the cabin.
I have seen him recently.
7. অতীত নির্দেশক শব্দ বা phrase যেমন yesterday ago, long since, last night ইত্যাদি থাকলে Sentence-টি Past tense-এ হবে।
যেমন -
He left home last night.
I came home yesterday.
8. No Sooner had ...... than, scarcely had ...... when, hardly had ...... before থাকলে had যুক্ত অংশটি Past Perfect Tense-এ এবং পরবর্তী অংশটি Past Indefinite Tense-এ হবে।
যেমন -
No sooner had he seen the police than he ran away.
9. Since এর আগের অংশ Present Indefinite/Present Perfect Tense-এ থাকলে পরের অংশ Past Indefinite Tense-এ হবে।
যেমন -
It is many years since I came to Dhaka.
Many years have passed since his father died.
10. Since-এর আগের অংশ Past Indefinite -এ থাকলে পরের অংশ Past Perfect Tense-এ হবে।
যেমন -
It was many years since they had first met. It was long since I had seen her last.
11. কোন Sentence যদি here/there দ্বারা শুরু হয় এবং তার পর যদি Singular Noun থাকে তাহলে here/there এর পরে Singular Verb বসে। আর Plural Noun থাকলে here/there এর পর Plural Verb বসে।
যেমন -
There is a high school in our village.
There Here are two high schools in our village.
12. Had better, would rather, let, must ইত্যাদির পর প্রদত্ত verb-এর Base form হয়।
যেমন -
You had better go home.
I will not let you enter the class room.
13. Sentence এর শুরুতে would that থাকলে Subject এর পরে could বসে এবং প্রদত্ত Verb এর Base form বসে।
যেমন -
Would that I could go to college.
14. কোন Verb এর পূর্বে mind, worth, cannot help, could not help, with a view to, look forward to, would you mind, get used to, with an eye to, committed to, confess to, devoted to, take to, addicted to adhere to, adverse to, object to থাকলে verb এর সাথে ing যোগ করতে হয়।
যেমন-
I went to the library with a view to reading there.
He never thought of going to cinema.
15. It is high time, it is time, wish ইত্যাদি থাকলে পরবর্তী অংশে Past indefinite tense হয়।
যেমন -
It is high time he changed his bad habits.
I wish I had a car.
16. As though, as if, wish থাকলে to be verb হিসেবে were বসে।
যেমন -
I wish I were a king.
He talks as if he were a leader.
17. As though / as if এর আগের অংশ Present Indefinite Tense-এ থাকলে পরের অংশ past Indefinite Tense-এ হয়। আবার আগের অংশ Past Indefinite Tense-এ থাকলে পরের অংশ Past perfect Tense-এ হয়।
যেমন -
He speaks as though he knew everything.
She described the event as though she had been present there.
18. Lest যুক্ত sentence-এ lest এর পরে যে verb থাকে তার পূর্বে should বসে ।
যেমন -
He ran fast lest he should miss the train.
19. কোনো কিছু করতে ইচ্ছে করা বা করতে চাওয়া অর্থে 'feel like' ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং feel like এর পর Verb-ing ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যেমন -
I feel like having a cup of tea.
