I'D FESTIVAL

The two l'ds in a year are the greatest festivals of the Muslims. One of them is called I'd ul Fitr and the other is l'ul-Ajha. Both of these I'ds are celebrated through great joy and amusement throughout the Muslim world. On the I'd-ul-Fitr the Muslims give fitra to the poor early in the morning. On this day all rise very early. Children pass the night in excitement and make various preparations. They go to the pond and take their bath with sweet smelling shop. Then they dress themselves in the best clothes. Meanwhile the womenfolk prepare different kinds of sweet. Then all take sweets. This being over, all proceed towards the maidan to offer prayer in congregation, At the end of the prayer people embrace one another forgetting all enmity. Then they come back home. At night they take rich items of food. I'd ut Ajha is different from Id-ul-Fitr. The rich sacrifice cows or goats. A portion of the meat is distributed among the poor, friends and relatives. They take the rest themselves, arrange feasts and entertain guests. Thus the two l'ds end through joy and pleasure.
