A BOAT RACE

A boat-race is one of the popular entertainments of the people of Bangladesh. It is a favourite pastime of the villagers. Generally boat-races are held during autumn. On the occasion of festival a boat race is held Some clubs arrange a boat-race. The participants practise regularly. Special boats are made. The boats are narrow and small. At least 30 to 40 people can row the boat sitting in order on both sides. Special dais is made for the judges, chief guests and guests. People from far and near gather to the spot in order to enjoy a boat race. A boat race starts amidst rejoicings and cheers. The boats go onward. The rowers row in a rythmic way. In each boat a man sings aloud ringing a bell to encourage the rowers. The spectators standing on the bank of the canal or river shout, beat drum to cheer up the racers. A boat race provides innocent pleasure. It is really exciting and thrilling.
