Use of NO SOONER ...... THAN

Joining of sentences 
No sooner .... than

 Structure

--- At first "No sooner had" 
--- then Subject of the 1st Sentence 
--- then Past Participle form of the verb of the 1st Sentence 
---- then Rest of The 1st Sentence 
---- then THAN
---- then 2ND SENTENCE 

Examples:

🔷 The old sailor loved the watersnakes. The dead albatross fell from his neck.

Ans. No sooner had the old sailor loved the watorsnakes than the dead albatross fell from his neck.



🔷 She heard the news. She fell ill. 

Ans: No sooner had she heard the news than she fell ill. 


EXERCISE

1. I grew older.I rushed to comic papers.

2. He entered the room. The bell rang.

3. The old sailor killed the bird. Thon he brought bad luck to the crew.

4. The sailors saw the albatross. They were pleased.

5. The writer wrote to the lady. Then the lady wrote another letter to him.

6. The writer saw the asparagus. His mouth watered at the sight of
them.

7. He reached the college. Just then the bell rang.

8. She heard the news. She fell ill. 

9. Jim found the fob chain. He was astonished.

10. The waiter came with the bill of fare. The writer was startled.

11. The authoress stopped her writing. Jerry would go to her.

12. The authoress heard the sound of chopping. She was half awakened.

13. Strong's mother and grandmother saw the Claude Duval books. They were horrified.

14. The sun set. The authoress started the car.
