Tense Markers

In a sentence there are some words (word) or phrases by those the form/tense of the verb of that sentence can be easily understood, those word/words/phrases are called Tense Markers. 

(Sentence-এ কিছু শব্দ বা শব্দগুচ্ছ থাকে, যা দেখে বোঝা যায়, Sentence-এর verb-টি কোন tense হবে। নিচে এ ধরনের কিছু শব্দের তালিকা উদাহরণসহ দেওয়া হলো)

TENSE 

TENSE MARKERS 

1. Present Indefinite

always, often, sometimes, everyday, daily, regularly, usually, normally, occasionally

generally, etc.

2. Present Continuous

now, at this moment, at this time, at present, still, look (for seeking attention), listen, etc.

3. Present Perfect

already, just, just now, yet, never, ever, lately, recently.

4. Present Perfect Continuous

since, for, how long

5. Past Indefinite

yesterday, ago, long ago, long since, last, last night, last week, last month, last year, as soon as, the day betore yeslerday, once

6. Past Continuous

at that moment, at that time, then etc.

7. Past Perfect

before, after

8. Future Indefinite

tomorrow, next, next week/year, coming,

ensuing, in the days/years to come.

9. Future Perfect

by, by this time, by (time, month, year), next (time, month, year), by next (lime, month, year)



Tense Markers in different tenses:

Present Indefinite: Everyday, daily, regularly, normally, generally, usually, occasionally, frequently, sometimes, often, always etc.

Example: We read newspaper daily.     


Present Continuous: Now, at this time, at this moment, still, day-by-day etc.

Example: We are learning English Grammar now


Present Perfect: Just, just now, right now, already, lately, recently, yet, ever, never.

Example: Have you ever been to London ?     

Present Perfect Continuous: Since, for how long 

Example: For how long it has been raining?    


Past Indefinite: Yesterday, ago, long ago, long since, last, last night, last week, last month, last year, last decade, last century, once, the day before yesterday, as soon as etc.

Example: Once there lived a king. 


Past Continuous:  At that moment, at that time, then etc. (also while/when/as)

Example: While he was playing I saw him.     

Past Perfect: before, after
(অতীতের ধারাবাহিক দুটি ঘটনার ক্ষেত্রে ‘before’-এর পূর্বে এবং ‘after’-এর পরে past perfect tense হয়।)

Example: I had reached the school before the rain started.         


Future Indefinite:  Tomorrow, next, next week, next month, next year, coming, ensuing, in the days/years to come.

Example: The coming days will be tough for us.       


Future Perfect:  Next (time, week, month, year), by next (time, week, month, year), by, by this time (time, week, month, year)

Example : He would have come by this time.
