Structurally speaking, cleft sentence is a simple sentence written as a complex sentence in order to emphasize/focus a particular part like subject, object, verb, etc. of the original simple sentence. 

📃 For example:

Declarative Sentence: He studied in Oxford University.
Cleft Sentence: The university where he studied was Oxford.


Declarative Sentence: She worked throughout the day.
Cleft Sentence: All she did was work throughout the day.
