Uses of Relative Pronouns

Relative pronouns are used to introduce relative clauses, which are dependent clauses that provide additional information about a noun in the main clause. The relative pronoun acts as a link between the main clause and the relative clause. Here are some examples of relative pronouns in sentences:

1. **Who**: Used to refer to people (subject).
   - The woman who lives next door is a doctor.
   - The man who is talking to Sarah is her brother.

2. **Whom**: Used to refer to people (object).
   - The girl whom I met yesterday is my new neighbor.
   - The professor whom you asked the question is an expert.

3. **Which**: Used to refer to animals and things.
   - The book which is on the table is mine.
   - The car which he bought last month is very fast.

4. **That**: Used to refer to people, animals, and things. Can be used instead of "who" or "which" in defining relative clauses.
   - The movie that we watched last night was fantastic.
   - The house that Jack built is now a museum.

5. **Whose**: Used to show possession and refer to people or things.
   - The woman whose bag was stolen reported the incident to the police.
   - The company, whose sales have been increasing, is expanding its operations.

6. **Where**: Used to refer to a place.
   - The restaurant where we had dinner was excellent.
   - This is the park where we used to play as kids.

7. **When**: Used to refer to a time or period.
   - The day when we met for the first time was unforgettable.
   - Summer, when the days are longer, is my favorite season.

8. **Why**: Used to refer to a reason or cause.
   - She explained the reason why she couldn't attend the meeting.
   - That's the reason why I didn't go to the party.

Remember that relative pronouns introduce relative clauses, which add more information to the main clause and help provide a clearer picture or context.
