The radio is one of the greatest scientific inventions of the modern age. It has eliminated all distance. Seated in our own rooms, we can now hear a speech or song from the farthest corner of the earth. We are kept informed of the progress of a football or a cricket match hundreds of miles away, as if we are watching the game before our eyes. It is also a great help to the spread of knowledge. Even an illiterate person can profit by the talks given through the radio by persons eminent in their lines. The radio has also made sea voyage safer. Whenever a ship is in trouble, she sends out radio messages which bring in quick help. Flying by air would not have been possible but for the radio, because the movements of planes are directed by it. And the time has come when it has started giving us full knowledge of some of the planets.
