No passion is so universal as the love of power. It is the instinct of everyone to climb up the ladder in position and power nobody wants to remain in lower rung. Man tries his best to achieve it. However, excess of desire for power often leads to disaster.
Sometimes a whole nation is maddened by this passion. It tries to swallow smaller and weaker neighbours. The love of power often meets with the most violent opposition from those on whom domi nation is sought to be imposed.. This ambition for love of power is predominant amongst the politicians and high-up officials. It is the nature of every man to get more power just to have more authority.
The means followed by the people to get more power are not always fair and honest. Betrayal, cheating, opportunism etc. are very often adopted to achieve power. Frequently power is abused to have more power. But the love of power cannot be denounced always. When power is obtained by legitimate means and exercised Judiciously delivering goods to the people, it is a boon. Only in such cases it can be appreciated as a very noble passion. (194)
