Nowadays Industrial Fairs or Trade Fairs, as they are sometimes called, are held in many parts of the world with a view to presenting an index of cultural and economic prosperity of a particular nation. These fairs are generally organised on a massive scale through the initiative and patronage of governments.
This year, I went to see the Industrial Fair held at Delhi. A huge plot of land was selected for the purpose and the whole area was specially designed with magnificient pavilions-all tastefully decorated with stamps of architectural skill and aesthetic look. The entire area bore a festive look. Thousands of people stood in queues for entry through the gates. The pavilions of the different States of India displayed things of amazing beauty and skill. There were equipments and machines, industrial and engineering goods made indigenously with Indian expertise, textiles products, leather, handloom, potteries, brassware and various other consumer goods. There were also big plants and machines all made by Indian engineers. They all spoke about the technological, economical and social progress made by our country and of the skill and sincerity of our people. The pavilions of the foreign countries were also magnificient and they all exhibited the industrial development and prosperity achieved by them. The fair was really attractive, entertaining and educative too and served the purpose of promoting the cause of industry and economy. (230)
